The RV-75/R-7 Adapter, Model 1544, provides the interconnect and switching functions that allow the RV-75 to control the frequency of 7 line receivers. The transceiver transmit frequency may also be controlled via the RCT function of the transceiver. The adapter provides connections for the RV-75 : the transceiver cable, and the RV-75 RIT control. Before proceeding with hook-up, it is strongly urged that you read the entire instruction sheet to become familiar with the various options available,

INSTALLATION AND HOOK-UP

While the RV-75 may be used without modification to the receiver unless both an AUX-7 Board and Fixed Frequency crystals are installed, it is recommended that for operating convenience a small modification be performed on the receiver. The modification involves cutting a wire. If both an AUX-7 and FF crystals are installed in the receiver the wire must be cut.

NOTE:

If the wire is not cut, it is possible to inadvertently enable the RV-75 and the internal PTO at the same time. This will cause garbled reception and/or spurious transmission in the RCT mode.

If after reading all of the instructions you choose to perform the modification, proceed with the instructions below. If you do not chose to perform the modification at this time, proceed with the hook-up instructions.

Receiver Modification

  1. The receiver modification consists of cutting one of the wires connected to the PRE-AMP pushbutton switch located on the front panel. If the wire is cut the receiver will not operate unless the Adapter is plugged into the R-7. Remove the 8 screws holding the top cover and slide the cover to the rear.
  2. Disconnect the 6 pin plug between the DR-7 Display Board and the UP/DOWN switches.
  3. Locate the 2 orange wires soldered to the center contact of the left side of the PRE-AMP switch.
  4. Locate the orange wire that is connected between the RREAMP and the FF switches. This orange wires runs across the top of the switches to the FF pushbutton switch. The other orange wire runs toward the parent board and into the wiring harness. On some receivers it may be necessary to remove the DR-7 Display Board to insure that the correct wire is identified.
  5. Be sure that you have identified the wire connected between the PREAMP and the FF switches. Cut this wire and cover the cut ends with electrical tape or shrink tubing.
  6. Reinstall the top cover.

Hook-up

  1. Place the slide switch located on the Adapter in the position indicated by the label on the Adapter. If the wire has been cut, the witch should be to the left when viewing the Adapter sockets with the label up.
  2. Turn the receiver power OFF and disconnect the AC line cord.
  3. Plug the 12-pin plug on the Adapter into the 12-pin socket on the receiver labeled ACCESSORY and connect the 2-pin socket from the Adapter to the 12V IN/OUT plug of the receiver.
  4. Connect the 8-pin plug from the RV-75 to the Adapter.
  5. If the receiver is used in conjunction with a 7-Line transceiver, connect the TRANSCEIVE cable to the 12-pin socket. Connect the phono cable supplied with the RV-75 from the jack labeled RIT SW on the RV-75 to the phono connector on the Adapter.

 OPERATION

Operation of the RV-75/R-7 is different depending upon whether the wire is cut or not. Operation without the modification Will be detailed first.

Operation Without Receiver Modification

Place the switch located on the RV-75/R-7 adapter in the JUMPER UNCUT position. TO enable the RV-75 to control the received frequency, turn the RV-75 mode switch to either RCV or RCV/TX and depress the FIXED pushbutton on the R-7, The FIXED lamp should light and the RV-75 will control the frequency,
To return frequency control to the R-7 PTO turn the RV-75 function switch to either TX or OFF and depress the FIXED pushbutton to unlock.

CAUTION

If the receiver has not been modified, the R-7 FIXED button must be depressed when the RV-75 is in either the RCV o r RCV/TX mode or the R-7 PTO and the RV-75 will be enabled at the same time. If Fixed Frequency crystals are installed in the R-7, the receiver must be modified.

Operation With a Modified Receiver

Operation with a modified receiver is simplified, When the RV-75 function switch is in the RCV or RCV/TX mode, the RV-75 will control the frequency. When the function switch is in the OFF or TX mode, either the R-7 PT0 or the Fixed crystal, if installed will control the frequency.

Keep in mind that if the receiver has been modified, the Model 1544 adapter must be plugged into the rear of the R-7 even if the RV-75 is disconnected.

If the R-7 is modified the FIXED lamp may not be as bright. as the other's indicators. This is a normal condition.
