The following accessories
and modification were added in the TR-7A.
The information is taken
directly from the TR-7A manual (TR-7/TR-7A Supplement).
-
A noise blanker (NB-7)
has been installed.
-
A 500Hz filter (SL-500)
has been installed in selectivity position "A"
-
Selectivity "B"
has been adapted to provide a bandwidth of 9kHz for AM reception.
-
A surge protection device
has been added to the receive antenna input to provide additional
protection from static discharges from lightning.
-
The phono jack input at
the rear panel labeled "TX" has been added to provide
transmitter audio input from sources other than microphone. Possible
uses include phone patches and radio teletype terminal units. This
jack is connected in parallel with pin 1 on the front panel microphone
jack.

 | The TR-7A is a solid-state, broadband,
SSB/CW transceiver which covers all amateur bands from 160 through 10
meters (1.5 to 30 Mhz full receive coverage) The optional AUX-7
provides 0 to 1.5 MHz receive plus transmit coverage of 1.8 to 30
MHz.. The TR-7A offers excellent sensitivity and selectivity, high
dynamic range, digital frequency readout and full break-in CW
operation. |
 | Full Passband Tuning (PBT) enhances use
of high rejection 8-pole crystal filter. |
 | NB-7 Noise blanker is standard. |
 | Mic audio available on rear panel to
facilitate phone patch connection. |
 | Built in lightning protection avoid
damage to solid-state components from lightning induced transients. |
 | A front panel switch allows the operator to Select an optional
crystal filter independent of the MODE switch. Both 2.3 kHz SSB and
500 Hz CW crystal filters, and 9 Khz AM selectivity are standard.
Capability for three accessory crystal filters plus the two
supplied, including 300 Hz, 1.8 KHz, 4 KHz and 6 KHz. The 4 kHz
filter, when used with the R-7A's Synchro-Phase AM detector,
provides AM reception with greater frequency response within a
narrower band wight than conventional AM detection and sideband
selection to minimize interference potential. |
 | A passive double balanced mixer is employed in the receiver front
end. This stage is preceded by a low noise, high dynamic range
bipolar rf amplifier to provide good strong signal performance and
weak signal sensitivity. |
 | The digital frequency readout of the TR-7A is derived from a true
frequency counter to assure an accurate display of operating
frequency. In addition, the tuning knob dial skirt is calibrated in
1 kHz increments to facilitate short frequency excursions. |
 | The transmitter of the TR-7A features a rugged, solid-state power
amplifier section which has been de-signed for continuous duty in
the SSB and CW modes. For more demanding duty cycles, such as SSTV
or RTTY, the Model FA7 cooling fan is available. The transmitter
section also features very low harmonic and spurious output, and is
equipped with automatic high VSWR protection. |
 | The VOX GAIN and DELAY controls are conveniently located on the
front panel, and full break-in CW operation is obtained via a switch
on the VOX DELAY control. VOX operation can be disabled by a front
panel switch. |
 | Other features include selectable AGC time constants, receiver
incremental tuning (RIT), and T/R switching connections for an
external linear amplifier and/or receiver. |
 | The modular construction of the TR-7A reduces service time to a
minimum. Each module is designed to perform a specific function, and
this feature, combined with the open, accessible layout of the
transceiver greatly simplifies any required alignment and
troubleshooting. Liberal use is made of table connectors,
simplifying module removal. |
