The RR-3 is a solid state, broadband receiver which embodies
several unique state-of-the-art design features. The unique design offers excellent
sensitivity, selectivity, very high dynamic range and digital frequency readout combined
with general coverage capability. A high level double balanced mixer is used as the first
receiver mixer in an up-conversion mode. The use of this device assures the reduction of
both front-end overload and intermodulation to a minimum.
Continuous coverage is provided by a frequency synthesizer which generates an injection
signal every 500 kHz and a PT0 which tunes a 500 kHz range. Generous PT0 dial over travel
allows an
additional 50 kHz or more off each end of range. while normal sensitivity meets the
CEPT (MAINS)
specifications, an internal preamplifier may be switched in for improved reception.
This preamp
increases receiver gain by about 10 dB and improves sensitivity by about 5 dB.
Other features include a notch filter for eliminating interfering heterodynes,
switchable ACC with three selectable time constants plus "OFF", speaker on/off
switch, a 600 ohm balanced output line amplifier, crystal-control operation at 500 and
2182 kHz (pushbutton selected), and capability of operation from AC or DC power.
Accessory items include a noise blanker, rack cabinet enclosure, internal DC-to-DC
isolation power supply, and six additional programmable crystal controlled channels.
