DRAKE TR-8
PROTOTYPE TRANSCEIVER
 |
This is an
Engineering prototype. I thought it was to be a TR-7B, to replace
the TR-7A. But when I mailed the information and pictures of it to
the former Drake employee Mike Elliot, he wrote back: “Sindre
-That sounds and looks like an early
prototype of the DRAKE TR-8. I think there were quite a few
made for field testing, and you apparently have one. Mike Elliot”
So what you see is the prototype of the DRAKE
TR-8 transceiver!!!! It is like a TR-4310,
but in a TR-7 case. It has a VRTO for tuning. It has the upgraded
PCB boards that the TR-7A contained. It also has a noise blanker,
and a full compliment of filters (6KHz, 1.8KHz, and 500Hz). An AUX-7
is installed with BCB modules. The VRTO comes up in the middle of
the selected band. It has up and down, but no STORE. Instead this
button functions as a LOCK. The VRTO board does not offer an
external counter input, so the rear switch and connector associated
with this feature are not present. The Drake RV75 VFO works with it.
